The contractor lodged a complaint with the ACB on Tuesday morning and the trap was laid the same afternoon. The assistant engineer, Sachin Raghunath Pawar (37) walked into the trap. ACB registered a case against Pawar with the Rajgad police station.
According to ACB, the complainant is a contractor of MSEDCL. The MSEDCL offered him a contract of shifting electricity poles and installing electricity meters.
The contractor shifted the poles and also installed the electricity meters in last couple of months. The MSEDCL office located at Nasrapur was supposed to issue cheque in favour of the contractor for the work done.
However, in order to clear his pay cheques the assistant engineer demanded the bribe of Rs 10,000. A team headed by superintendent of police, ACB, Sandeep Diwan and additional superintendent of police Suhas Nadgouda arrested Pawar.
Diwan said that the officer was harassing the contractor for last few days by delaying his payment. When contractor demanded his payment, Pawar put forth his demand for money.
